According to a statement by Russia’s Defence Ministry, Russia and Turkey have committed a total of 17 ceasefire violations across Syria in the last 24 hours alone.
“In the last 24 hours, a total of six ceasefire violations were observed by Russia, 1 in Aleppo, 3 in Damascus, 1 in Lattakia, and 1 in Hama. Within the same time frame, Turkey committed a total of eleven violations, 3 in Damascus, 4 in Daraa, 1 in Homs, 2 in Hama and 1 in Idlib.”
Russia and Turkey are both signatories and guarantors of the ceasefire that was agreed on as part of the Astana talks on a solution to the Syrian conflict. Turkey was criticised in the last round of talks that was held this week for not guaranteeing the participation of the armed opposition groups fighting the Syrian government, something Syria’s envoy to the talks claimed was Turkey’s responsibility.
