A man living in Turkey’s western city Izmir beat his Syrian worker and taking a selfie of the incident uploaded it on social media.
Safak K. beat his Syrian worker who had arrived to work late that day and uploaded a selfie of the incident with the caption, “The Turk’s revenge against the Syrian” on Facebook.
In the photo Safak K. is seen stepping on the Syrian man’s stomach and smiling into the camera. Responding to the question, “What’s happening there?” under the post, the employer writes, “This is the punishment for arriving to work late.”
Another comment underneath the post reads, “If you let him go he’ll return to Syria,” followed by a smiling face emoji.
The photo has received widespread criticism after going viral with many people calling for legal action to be taken. The incident has been flagged up as an example of the treatment many Syrian refugees face in Turkey.
More than 2.5 million refugees from Syria are thought to be living in the country.
It is not known whether an investigation has been launched into the incident.
