Germany: Russia-Turkey-Iran cooperation on Syria settlement concerning

Germany is concerned about Russian-Turkish-Iranian cooperation on Syrian settlement efforts without European and US-led coalition involvement, the German Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

“There is partnership and cooperation between Turkey, Russia and Iran. It led to, among other things, negotiations on settlement in Astana,” ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said at a briefing.

Commenting on German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel’s warning of Turkey’s “drift” toward Russia’s orbit, Schaefer said “the fact that this is happening without regard to Europe, the anti-IS coalition and the US is certainly a cause for concern to us.”
