Israeli jets hit Syria, conflicting claims on downed fighter jet

Israeli fighter jets bombed Syria in the early hours of the morning on Friday while Syria responded with anti-aircraft missiles, one of which was intercepted by an Israeli air defence system installed in January.

Israeli fighter jets targeted several locations throughout the night. Syrian air defence systems engaged the fighter jets with multiple anti-aircraft missiles, with reports in the morning claiming that a fighter jet was downed.

One of the missiles launched by Syria was intercepted by the new Arrow-3 air defence system Israel had installed to the north of Jerusalem in January. This is the first time Israel has used its new defence system.

Conflicting statements have been given by both the Syrian and Israeli armies. Syria is claiming that an Israeli jet was downed while a spokesman for the Israeli Air Force has said that all jets had safely returned to their bases.
