Police vehicle crashes through wall, killing two children in Kurdish southeast

Muhammed (7) and Furkan Yildirim (6) lost their lives when a armoured police vehicle crashed through the wall of the house were they were sleeping.

An armoured vehicle crashed into a house killing two children in Turkey’s southeastern Silopi district of Sirnak on Wednsday night. The police vehicle ploughed through a wall behind which 7-year-old Muhammed Yildirim and his 6-year-old brother Furkan were sleeping.

According to local witnesses, the policemen, who left the scene immediately after the lethal incident, were under the influence of alcohol. Riot police came to the area to investigate the incident and quarrelled with locals, who said the vehicle had been stationed in the area to protect the local office of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

The governor of Sirnak, Ali Ihsan Su, visited the family and mourners to share his condolences on Thursday morning. He described the incident as “fate”, attracting ire amongst the mourners, according to independent media outlets in Turkey.
