Refugee boat capsized, Aegean Sea

A boat carrying forty-six refugees has capsized off the coast of the western city of Canakkale, in the Aegean Sea. Forty-five refugees were saved by coast guards, however, one Ethiopian woman died.

The incident was caused by gale force winds at 2am local time. The boat was carrying Syrian, Etiophian, Eritrean, Afghan, Bangladeshi and Cameroonian refugees. The Etiophian woman’s body was taken to a morgue at Ayvacik hospital, Canakkale.

According to Turkey’s Human Rights Association (IHD), 22 refugees have died and 5,938 refugees captured, including one baby and five children in the last eight months while trying to cross the Aegean sea.
