Russia criticises UN for omitting PYD from Geneva talks

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov

Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, has criticised the United Nations for not inviting the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) to the next round of talks in Geneva, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

“Unfortunately [Staffan] de Mistura has not upheld resolution 2254 [the UN’s a road map for a peace process in Syria]”, Gatilov claimed.

Stating that Russia opposes the decision to omit the PYD from the Geneva talks, Gatilov added, “The opposition has not been given an equal representation at the Syria talks in Geneva planned for 23 February.”
