Russia MoD to bolster Syria air defence, suspends cooperation with US

The Russian Defence Ministry considers the US attack in Syria as a gross violations of the memorandum on indent prevention in Syria and is suspending cooperation on it, Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Friday.

“We assess such actions of the US side as a gross violations of the memorandum on incident prevention and ensuring security in operations in the Syrian airspace signed in 2015. The Russian Defence Ministry is suspending cooperation with the Pentagon within the framework of this memorandum,” he said in a statement.

The Ministry also announced its plans to bolster and increase the effectiveness of the air defence system in Syria after the United States carried out attacks against a Syrian armed forces airfield.

“In order to protect the most sensitive objects of the Syrian infrastructure, a system of measures to bolster and increase the effectiveness of the Syrian armed forces’ air defence systems,” Konashenkov said.
