Russian airstrike on Turkish soldiers: ‘coordinates given by Turkish generals’

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian Press Secretary for President Putin, has said today that the mistaken bombing of Turkish soldiers by Russian fighter jets was due to mistaken coordinates given to them by the Turkish army.

Peskov said, “The reason behind this incident is clear. There is no room for discussion. As you know, our president has offered his condolences for the loss of life in the incident. Unfortunately, the situation is clear. In their operations against the terrorists our soldiers were operating in accordance with the coordinates given to them by the generals of the Turkish army. There wasn’t supposed to be any Turkish soldiers inside these coordinates. This is why this unfortunate incident happened.”

Asked whether he thought Turkey was to blame for the incident, Peskov said, “this is about the coordinates not being checked”.
