Syria calls on UN to ‘ensure withdrawal of invading Turkish forces’

Syria’s Bashar al-Assad government has called on the United Nations to end Turkey’s Euphrates Shield Operation.

According to pro-government media, the Syrian government asked the UN to “ensure the withdrawal of invading Turkish forces,” or it would use force.

At least eight government soldiers have been reported killed and dozens injured in artillery attacks by Turkish forces in western Manbij, northwestern Syria, according to recent reports.

Turkey launched the Euphrates Shield Operation with several factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in August 2016.
