Four Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) lawmakers detained in Turkey yesterday were released.

Mehmet Emin Adiyaman, Osman Baydemir, Ahmet Yildirim and Imam Tascier were taken into custody and released after questioning.

Urfa deputy Baydemir, Mus lawmaker Yildirim and Igdir MP Emin Adiyaman were detained for speeches made, while Diyarbakir deputy Tascier was taken into custody on the charge of defaming President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Following his release, Baydemir, told reports that the deputies had been detained to prevent the HDP from campaigning against the government’s draft constitutional bill, which is expected to go to a referendum in early April.
