Turkish troops cross the border into Iraqi Kurdistan

Turkish troops moving in Cukurca district of Hakkari in southeastern Turkey crossed the border into Iraqi Kurdistan on the night between Friday and Saturday, ANF reported.

According to the news outlet’s reporters, Turkish fighter jets began to carry out airstrikes in the Cukurca border area at 20:00 local time on Friday evening after which Turkish troops started to move across the border into Iraq.

The military advance into Iraq was followed by heavy clashes between Turkey’s armed forces and guerrilla units of the People’s Defence Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK).
