Turkish cartoonist Ramize Erer has been granted the “courage” award by Fludie Glaciel magazine at the 44. International De La Bande Dessinée Festival.
Ramize Erer, one of the most important women cartoonists in Turkey, was deemed worthy of the award because of emphasising feminism and women’s issues in her cartoons.
In her speech at the award ceremony, Erer said, “I am accepting this award for my mother who became a feminist without knowing about Virginia Woolf or Simone de Beauvoir. Life forced her to be a feminist. I drew all of my cartoons with the endless freedom which she gave me. I presented women’s issues and desires in my cartoons.”
