Wife of arrested hunger striker reacts to Turkish interior minister: Are you a judge?

Esra Ozakca, the wife of arrested hunger striker Semih Ozcakca reacted to Suleyman Soylu, the Turkish Minister of Interior Affairs who claimed that the purged teacher who is on a hunger strike for 77 days is a member of a terrorist organisation.

Addressing the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu and Minister of Interior Affairs Suleyman Soylu who claimed that Nuriye Gulmen and Semih Ozakca are “members of a terrorist organisation,” Esra Ozakca wrote on her twitter account: “We are asking Cavusoglu and Soylu, are you prosecutors or are you judges? Who are you?”

“These statements are clear violations of the presumption of innocence. We call on judges and prosecutors who witness this violation to take action. We will file a criminal complaint,” added Ozakca in another tweet she posted.

Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Sezgin Tanrikulu has also strongly reacted to the minister’s statements.

“Shameless statements! How is it to be decided that someone is a member of a terrorist organisation? Through an emergency law decree or a court decision? One day you will also need justice. You are shameless, you are liars and you are cruel,” said Tanrikulu in tweets that he posted today.
